Save me San Francisco

As you may have read on my previous post, Lex and I have recently returned from a two week trip to New York. We were there for a friends wedding and because we had only visited NY recently, we decided to stop over in San Francisco on our way there to break up the trip a little. It was our first time visiting SF (a place that many compare to Sydney!). What we didn’t realise is that being the July 4th weekend, most of America had also planned to visit the Bay – the city was PACKED! SF has always been on my list of places to visit, so I was so excited to finally go.

We arrived at around 9am in the morning so the main goal for our first day was just to stay awake. We had a quick shower and clothes change and walked from our apartment in Pacific Heights to Fishermans Wharf – I honestly don’t think I’ve seen that many people in the one place since I last visited Times Square at New Years! Although there were so many people there, I did love the vibe of the place – from the people playing music, to those queuing for a clam chowder, to just the overall holiday vibe. People just seemed to be in a good mood and that continued throughout our 4 day stay there. Everyone was really helpful and accomodating. People from SF also come across as really proud of SF, much like Sydneysiders.

We did pretty much every touristy thing you can imagine – saw the sea lions, AT&T park, rode our bikes over the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, Painted Ladies, Lombard Street. You name it, we did it. I must say though we did feel a little lost in SF. I think the area we stayed in was a little far from the main hub of the city and we struggled with that a little. What struck me most about the city though was the architecture. Every building was so striking and the colours of the city swept me away.

More to come of our time in SF soon.

Until then,

Lis x
